Why East?

A few good reasons

As an independent building & timber merchants we have built our reputation over many years on our first class delivery service, large stocks of quality materials, exceptional value, knowledgeable and helpful staff.

Rapid delivery

With our fleet of vehicles, ranging from crane lifts to small tipping vans, we can offer a next-day service onstock items with orders placed before 2pm. And in many cases we can even offer a same-day service. For specialist products we can arrange direct delivery from the manufacturer to your specified delivery address.

Large stocks

We act as a distributor for most major brick and block companies and are the counties largest stockist of Plasmor Blocks, we also have in stock over 1/4 million facing bricks on the ground at any given time. Unlike many of our competitors, we have recently expanded our range and depth of stock of lintels, insulation and paving amongst other goods.

Dedicated and experienced staff

Here at East's our staff are our most valuable asset, which is why the average length of service is over 12 years and our staff have, combined, over 300 years experience within the merchanting sector. Our staff undergo regular vigorous training in both product knowledge, materials handling and health and safety aspects of the business. The company remains a trusted and reliable business partner to builders and developers as well as retail customers by staying true to its values of offering exceptional value, fantastic service and professionalism.

Social responsibility

We care deeply about the environment and our responsibility towards it. Which is why all our timber is sourced from FSC Assured suppliers, and our natural stone paving only comes from companies who are members of the Ethical Trading Initiative. Cutting waste is also important for us, our waste is sorted on our premises and where possible sent for recycling and during the last year not one skip was sent to landfill by us, a fact we are incredibly proud to announce.

Our history & heritage

We can trace our company's roots back to the mid 1930's when Edward 'Ted' East started in business as a coalman and haulier. During the war the Ted and his trusty Bedford was commandeered by the War Ministry to clear bomb debris from London, this work inevitably led to return loads of sand and gravel to rebuilt the battered city. Contacts were made and life long partnerships formed.

After the war the company expanded greatly on the back of the post war building boom, and soon out grew their premises at the station goods yard in Amersham and moved into what was then a 2 acre green field site on Chiltern Avenue. Ted's son David joined the company in the early fifties, during a time of great economic and social upheaval. The company became limited in 1957, the decades following saw a series of long term investments in new offices, warehousing, and culminating in the resurfacing of the yard. The final result is that we now have one of the largest, cleanest and safest builders merchants yards in the county as well as being the oldest.

1986 saw the arrival at the business of Stuart, the third generation East to manage the company, who together with a professional and dedicated management team continues to drive the business forwards. The early nineties saw an expansion into supplying timber and by the early noughties we were one of the first timber yards to offer treated kiln dried carcassing timber as standard.

The company is proud to have supplied materials to numerous prestigious projects in its history, including Windsor Castle, Eton College, Chequers, Broadmoor Hospital, to name just a few.
